Overcoming the Personal Growth Wall:  Strategies for Success

Matt Swartz

If you’re like us, you’ve read at least a few personal growth books (likely, you’ve read many, many personal growth books). You’ve probably been to some live training and some virtual trainings. You’ve learned goal planning. You love your podcasts. You’ve learned Emotional Intelligence and how to connect with people. You’ve learned how to increase your self-care. Maybe you’ve learned how to meditate or breathing exercises. You’ve probably been to therapy, or coaching, and found it helpful. But, you’ve likely also hit the Personal Growth Wall.

Personal Growth Wall, Explained...

The Personal Growth Wall is an invisible wall, like in an old video game – it looks like you should be able to keep going, but you get stuck and can’t move forward. You’ve done all the right things, listened to all the experts, and you’re supposed to feel happy, fulfilled, at peace… but you don’t. You feel better, sure… but there’s something missing. So, you read the next book, go to the next training, try to meditate better… and now you’re on the Personal Growth Hamster Wheel. If you want off the Wheel, and to break through the Wall, let me explain what’s going on.

It's all about biology. Our brain is divided into different parts, and the logical part that’s reading the books and going to training isn’t as connected to the emotional/subconscious parts. This means that things change on the surface, but it feels like things keep magnetizing back to old patterns. It's like you’ve bought the most amazing running shoes, have the best running coach, you’ve practiced for hours, and you get ready for the race… but you’re attached to a semi-truck. It doesn’t matter how fast you run, you’re not going to get where you want to go. The semi-truck in your subconscious brain, your limbic system, and until that changes, you’re stuck.

How to Overcome the Growth Wall?

That’s where bilateral stimulation comes in. This simple process of stimulating both sides of your body, left to right, right to left, allows the subconscious brain to activate and change in a whole new way. It’s the same thing that happens every night when you sleep. That’s where Recess comes in. We employ simple bilateral stimulation, directing you to move your eyes left to right, right to left, and we guide you with specific prompts. These prompts paired with bilateral stimulation will help you to increase your focus, boost your productivity, grow your capability, and decrease your stress. Even ten minutes a day will produce small changes in the moment, and consistent use over time will create permanent, lasting change in the subconscious areas of your brain that normally don’t change.

Whoosh! Suddenly, you’re unhooked from the semi-truck, and you’re running full speed and making ground. You’re off the Personal Growth Hamster Wheel, you’ve broken through the Personal Growth Wall, and you’re seeing lasting, sustainable change that you don’t have to keep forcing yourself into day after day. It helps the books you’ve read, the therapy you’ve had, the training you’ve gone to, and yes, even that meditation you’ve been doing, to sink it, integrate more deeply and get you the results you’ve been looking for. You may decide to read another personal growth book, but as you do, you’ll do it slower, integrate it more effectively and see more permanent change. Welcome to Flow, with Recess.
